KEEPING THE BALL ROLLING…..

While most of the MX world is on off-season training or pre-season prep, there is some bar to bar racing happening in Western Canada with the Future West AX tour.   It kicked off this past weekend in Armstrong BC with racing both Friday and Saturday night.  Two classes of racing with Lites and Open both featuring main events each night, though most competitors opt to compete on 250F or 250 2 strokes in both classes.  With heavy hitters in attendance such as Americans Adam Enticknap and Carson Brown as well as previous AX champ Jeremy Medaglia to name a few contenders so action was sure to be intense.

Friday night saw the MX101 duo of Jess Pettis defending Future West AX champ and newly crowned 2017 MX2 Rockstar Energy Drink National Champion Shawn Maffenbeier in the house and ready to do battle.   They did not disappoint as they picked up right where they left off this summer filling the podium!

Maff lead the way with a second in the Lites main and backed that up with the Pro Open main win.  His teammate Pettis finished third in the Lites and had the Open main event win until a washout in a corner handed Maff the win and Pettis had to settle for second.

Saturday night was much of the same, but a first corner crash left Maff scrambling from the back to finish fifth (the only main that a podium was missed by the team).  Pettis would go on to finish a close second to keep his streak alive of podiums but still looking for his first win this weekend.    He would not have to wait much longer as he and Maff put on a show in the Open pro main with passes back and forth for the lead.   Pettis would eventually pull out a small gap and take home the W, Maff would settle for second.

After round 1 of the series Pettis sits second in Lites, with Maff in fourth.   The boys are tied for the lead in the Open class.   Next round is Nov 24/25 in the larger building in Chilliwack BC.    At this time the plan is for both to race the next round as well.  Both Pettis and Maffenbeier are looking to try their hand at some west coast SX so plans are being worked to best handle the next couple of months.  If anyone is looking or able to help the effort with contingency or parts it would be greatly appreciated.
